Be’s 3rd Birthday has floored me. I cannae get up.

I’m struggling to comprehend how we can ever match up to kitsch cabaret, brazen burlesque and mind-blowing music all in one night.

Bands-wise, Race Horses fired off the evening with their unique Thrash-Pop and I couldn’t help but “ooh-wah-ooh” along to each boppy little number. My-oh-Meilyr that boy has some rhythm in them bones… Fool’s Gold didn’t disappoint either - with an industry guest list a mile long chomping at the bit, they lived up to the buzz they created with the wonderful Surprise Hotel and really sweated it out for us. They sang with the audience, drank with the audience (literally, straight from some little drunkards wine bottle) and at the end of the set even danced with the audience, as they took their cowbell and various other percussion instruments off-stage and broke out into the crowd. For half an hour, Carnival came to Camden!! Fenech-Soler finished the night off in style as the lads, all sequin-clad, electro-fied the room to within an inch of it’s life. They super-sized that synth and sent it soaring up to a solarized Stratocaster of a sky.

Dusty Limits, ‘the compere without compare’ had the audience reeling with his twisted and darkly comic cabaret, and Miss Laurie Hagen, of whom Time Out ‘are expecting big, big things’ had them thirsty for more with her saucy renditions of Victor’s Tango and Doctor Flesh.

I think I need me an Alka-Seltzer…
